If your day camper is looking for a little adventure this summer, we invite you to Camp Thompson for a one-of-a-kind, once-a-summer day camp experience! Camp Thompson has been a Y camping tradition for almost a century and is located between Laurel and Fuller lakes along the historic Appalachian Trail. Our facilities include a modern bath house, a wellness center with an on-site health care provider, dining hall, pavilion, volleyball court, two high ropes courses, paint ball course and much more. With all this and more, Camp Thompson is the perfect place for your camper to make new friends and explore all that Y camping has to offer. Join us at Camp Thompson! This camp fills very quickly! Camp Thompson After Dark is designed for our day campers to experience Camp Thompson Resident Camp for one special night! The unique overnight experience will give campers a chance to venture out and try new things at Camp Thompson after dark! Campers will have the chance to participate in many fun and engaging activities that are a part of Camp Thompson Resident Camp programming, like s’mores, Color Wars, polar bearing, and much more! Pack your bag and get ready for some fun with Camp Thompson After Dark! Space is limited for this program so register early!

Camp Thompson is located in Gardners, PA and has been operated by the Carlisle Family YMCA for more than 100 years. Camp Thompson is nestled in the pines of Pine Grove Furance State Park and the Michaux State Forest. We are located between both Laurel and Fuller lakes, and a mile away from the halfway point of the Appalachian Trail. Our camp offers four week-long programs for campers ages 7-14. With activities like: Archery Tag, Blow Dart Guns, Paddleboards, Arts & Crafts, Low Ropes Initiative Park, Swimming, Outdoor Living Skills, Sling Shots, Hiking\Overnights, Canoeing, Nature, Archery, Large Group Games, Alpine Tower, Tubing, Guitar, Kayaking, Mountain Boarding, Color Wars, And Much More!

My First Overnight is an exciting opportunity for parents who have an adventurous 6- to 9-year-old camper. This camp experience is geared towards helping our younger campers make the transition from day camps to resident camps. During the three-day camp experience there will be two staff available at all times for each group. The program will be focused on making the campers as comfortable and confident as possible while providing fun and interactive games and activities. During the week we will be giving the campers on a fun-filled tour of all Camp Thompson has to offer. Campers/Parents are encouraged to send emails during their stay to be printed out like ‘mail’ through our bunk1 system.

Day campers will travel from the Y each day by bus to our 100-acre Y’s Men and Women’s Club farm, located about 10 minutes from the Y. The natural beauty of this site is a perfect location to explore environmental and outdoor education and activities.

This year our summer session will be broken down into 3 themed weeks that will alternate each week. The themes will be Things That Fly | Water, Lakes & Streams | Science & Games

Campers will rotate through stations like Arts & Crafts, Group Games to promote physical activity, Story Time, Cooking, Imaginative Play & SO MUCH MORE! The morning will be structured to ensure the social and emotional development and we will incorporate themed weeks with dress up\costumes for Fridays, walking field trips, guest speakers and structured play.  Campers will need to pack a lunch everyday, Joining YADC on their Field trips-Wednesdays and swim stuff on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

YADC is designed to provide peace of mind to working parents while giving kids a chance to have a fun summer. YADC campers spend the majority of their time at the Y, enjoying the fun-filled benefits of the Y facility, pool and grounds. The campers also walk to local parks, Bosler Memorial Library and other local attractions. Each week will have fun-filled themes and activities, as well as a field trip. Small groups are led by a counselor, and the groups are constantly rotating through sessions and group games including:

Arts and Crafts – Swimming – Cooking – Drama – Dance – Large Group Games – Reading & Math – And much more!

Campers also do a small weekly service projects, including making cards for residents at the local nursing homes to making no-sew blankets for hospital patients. The campers are always excited to share their work with others in our community.
