Lifeguard Training

Lifeguards play a key role in keeping a safe environment for our swimmers. The Carlisle Family YMCA offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and Recertification Courses in order to teach individuals how to keep members of their YMCA community safe in our indoor pools.

This comprehensive Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED class will prepare you for employment as a lifeguard. PLEASE NOTE: These are blended learning classes. You will get a link for the online portion of the class with a deadline to complete everything. In-water skills will be tested on the dates listed below.

You must be able to complete a 300-yard swim non-stop using front crawl and breaststroke and one other timed swimming test to participate in the class.

Please be sure to bring a notebook and pen, swim suit and towel, personal pocket mask and your textbook to every session. If you do not have a personal pocket mask, you may purchase one at the time of registration.

Participants must attend all classes and successfully pass skill tests and a written exam in order to be certified. Any class conflicts must be discussed with the instructor and approved prior to class.

Certification is through American Red Cross and is valid for two years.

Please note: No refunds will be issued if participants do not pass the class.

Lifeguard Recertification

All Locations
4/18/21 - 5/16/21
VIEW

Any current lifeguard whose certification is about to expire must take this course to be recertified. Some videos will be viewed in the classroom as well as a review of skills in the pool. A written test and practical exam will be given. Please bring your current certification card, identification, a notebook, pen, swim suit, towel, personal pocket mask and goggles. If you do not have a personal pocket mask, you can order one for $14 at the time of registration.

Participants will be required to take the CPR recertification course regardless of whether their CPR is expiring so all certifications will be on the same two-year cycle. If you register for this course, you do not need to register for the CPR class; it will be assumed you are attending both classes. The new certification is through American Red Cross and is valid for two years.
